As You Like It
"As You like it" is a play by William Shakespeare,it is a comedy written by him around 1599-1600 A.D.It is one of Shakespeare's most popular plays and is performed very frequently throughout the world. The setting of the play is in a duchy in France, Shakespeare has also used pastoral settings like the "Forest of Arden" in this play.
The play begins as The Duke has been dethroned by his younger brother Fredrick. Rosalind the Duke's daughter has been allowed to stay in court because she is a close friend of Fredrick's only child, Celia. Orlando is a young gentleman who falls in love with Roslaind when he sees her, but he is forced to flee his home after being persecuted by his older brother Oliver. Roslaind is then banished from the court by an angry Fredrick. Celia and Rosalind decide to flee together, they are accompanied by the jester Touchstone.

Rosalind has disguised herself as a young man and calls herself Ganymede, Celia now calls herself Aliena. They arrive in the Forest of Arden. The Forest is also home to The exiled Duke who now lives there with a few supporters, including Jaques.Ganymede and Aliena do not encounter the Duke immediately, instead they meet a young tenant Corin and offer to buy his master's cottage. Oliver and his servant Adam find the Duke and now live with him. Oliver also posts love poems for Roslaind on the trees.
Rosalind has also fallen in love with Orlando, but meets him as Ganymede and pretends to counsel him. Meanwhile, the shepherdess Phebe, who is loved by Silvius, falls in love with Ganymede. Touchstone has also made an advance to the shepherd girl Audrey and intends to marry her. But Jaques puts a stop to that.
Orlando while roaming in the jungle, sees Oliver and rescues him from a lioness. Oliver repents for mistreating Orlando and asks for forgiveness. Oliver meets Aliena and falls in love with her. They agree to get married. Orlando and Rosalind, Silvius and Phebe, and Touchstone and Audrey also get married in the final scenes. Everyone then discovers that Fredrick has repented his actions and reinstates his elder brother as the Duke. He then decides to lead a religious life.
