The latest news is the 1941 classic animated feature Dumbo is being adopted into Broadway musical. This is the latest Disney feature to try and make the jump from the silver screen to Broadway stage. Dumbo tickets would not be available for the live adaptation until the 2010-2011 theater season if at all. Noted director Stephen Daldry has already passed on directing the project, but Disney has a string of successes and is likely to find a willing director to take on the challenge of making an animated classic a stage success.

The original Dumbo was released on October 23, 1941 by Walt Disney and RKO Radio Pictures. It was the fourth Walt Disney Animated feature and made to cover the losses Disney suffered after Fantasia crash and burned at the theater. The 64-minute animated film easily became one of the most memorable films in the company's history and has thrived in the years since despite the changing times and the questioning of the use of racial stereotypes. Dumbo is perhaps the best example of the success a simple story can have.
