Exit The King
Exit the King (1962) is the story of king, once certain of his mastery of everything, including nature itself, whose world is rapidly falling apart as his death becomes more and more imminent. The play, the last in the three "Berenger Cycle" plays written by absurdist dramatist Eugene Ionesco and depicts Berenger as the King and brings in his first (Margeurite) and second wife (Marie). Exit the King tickets are something to behold for those in search of theater whose themes will linger far after the show has finished.
The play is a sharp contrast to Ionesco's other plays. The most evident difference is the story line. His other two plays of the cycle, The Killer (1959) and Rhinoceros (1959), take non-linear dream approaches to the story structure. Exit the King's rather straight forward approach is couple with language that is equally as straight forward. The other two plays had rambling philosophical discussions. Those with Exit the King tickets will notice that as the play moves forward the stage seems to be cleared. Ionesco traditionally felt the need to fill the stage as the story went on in his other plays.

Show Biography - Exit The King
|
The plot itself focuses on the people around the King preparing him for death. Marguerite and the doctor try and convince the man who lived life as if he was the lone true thing in it, that he is beginning to pass away. Though Marie comforts him and allows him to ignore this fact, she plays her own role in easing the King in acceptance of death. Exit the King tickets were meant by Ionesco to help prepare the audience to prepare others for death, since the world is populated by a people that are forever dying.
