God of Carnage tells the story of two married couples get together for a civilized meeting to discuss a situation between their grade school sons. Drinks are poured, tempers are flared, the house is turned upside down – and the roles of parent and child blur. The play was written by Yasmina Reza, the award-winning playwright. Reza burst onto the scene when her play Art was a great success in London's West End and on Broadway. God of Carnage first opened in Zurich, Switzerland in 2006. It was then translated from French to English by the playwright Christopher Hampton. Hampton has won awards for his adaptations of classic Chekov and Ibsen plays. He also penned the award winning play Dangerous Liaisons, and wrote the screenplay for the 2007 film Atonement. Reza's play opened on London's prestigious West End in 2008 to much acclaim. It won the 2009 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy.
