Later it had a ten show performance mostly having student cast and was directed by Tebelak. The show was performed on 24th February, 1971 at Cafe La MaMa in New York in the United States of America. The musical attracted producers Edgar Lansbury and Joseph Beruh and got interested in having a off Broadway run for Godspell. Stephen Schwartz was hired by the producers for writing the new score. On 10th August, 1971 Godspell had a shift to bigger Promenade Theatre from Cherry Lane Theatre. At Promenade Theatre it was among the longest running off-Broadway musicals.
