The "Jailhouse Rock" is a musical play was shown in the year 1957 as a film, but as its popularity increased it was developed into a play, although the cast remains the same. The play has been significantly termed as culturally fit for the viewers all over the world and has been selected for the preservation in the United States National Film Registry. Jailhouse Rock was written by Nedrick Young who was born in the year 1914. One of the most popular screenwriter, he was often blacklisted during the year 1950 as well as 1960. When he wrote the screenplay for Jailhouse Rock, he was widely appreciated for it. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Apart from screen writing, he also used to took active part in acting and has featured in various feature-length films from the the period 1943-1966. He died in the year 1968, from a heart attack at the age of 54. A list of his films for which he wrote the screenplay, are The Defiant Ones in the year 1958, Inherit the Wind in the year 1960 and lastly Jailhouse Rock in 1957. The play Jailhouse Rock- The Musical is about a young lad, Vince Everett is sent to prison after being convicted of Manslaughter. He is put into a cell, where he has to share his cell with Hank Houghton who is a country & western singer. As they strikes friendship, Hank Houghton recognizes the singing talent of Vince. In the cell they make a contract with each other to perform together as well as to share the profit. When Vince comes out of the jail, he vehemently tries to get a job as singer, but is unsuccessful in his endeavor. But luck was on his side and so he is helped by Peggy van Alden, who helps him in his endeavor to realize his dream and finally Vince achieve success and as a result they start a record-company together. But Vince is a selfish man who is only interested in fame and fortune. When he is confronted by Hank, Vince denies anything to do with him and even doesn't recognize him. Hank gets angry and a fight ensues between them in which Vince's throat gets injured and as a result of which it jeopardize his career in singing. Finally, Vince recovers from his injury and his friends rally round to see Vince and they are elated to find that Vince got his voice back. In the meantime, Vince realizes the error of his ways. The highlights of the film are the 'Jailhouse Rock' sequence and The 'Don't Leave me'.
