Jan A.P. Kaczmarek full name is Jan Andrzej Pawe Kaczmarek. Born in the year 1953 on 29th April, in Konin, Poland, he has composed music for over over thirty feature films and documentaries, in Polish language. Unlike other musicians, Jan has done his graduation from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan' in law studies. But it was music that captured his fantasy, as he felt that music was the only medium where you can freely express your expression, he thought to make it as his career instead of law. So after completion of his studies, he then went on to work with Jerzy Grotowski's Theater Laboratory in the late 70s and in the year 1977, he created the Orchestra of the Eighth Day. The Orchestra of the Eighth Day" began touring Europe in the late 1970's and has appeared, till date, in Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, the VPRO Radio International Contemporary Music Festival in Amsterdam,the Venice Biennale, and the International Music Festival in Karlovy Vary, Czechoslovakia. Therein, he also won the Golden Spring Prize for the Best Composition.
To make his dreams a reality, he signed up with Flying Fish Records (Chicago) recorded his first album "Music For The End" in the year1982. The album was quite a hit. Then in the year 1989 he moved to Los Angeles, so has to gain wider market for his music. Being talented, he had never looked back, his music was released by various well-known records such as Sony Classical, Decca, Varese Sarabande, Milan and Savitor Records. Apart from composing music, he has also been performing in concerts in the USA and in Europe. His first success in the United States came in theater. Jan A. P. Kaczmarek reputation as composer has been growing not only in his home country but also at the international level. He is not only successful as a composer but is also well-known as the recording artist as well as a touring musician.

Jan Kaczmarek won an Obie and a Drama Desk Award for his music for the New York Shakespeare Festival's 1992 production of John Ford's "Tis Pity She's A Whore". One of his best day was when he was awarded an Oscar for his music in "Finding Neverland", that was directed by Marc Forster. Not only this, Jan A.P. Kaczmarek has also been awarded The National Board of Review for Best Score of the Year. Besides, he has also been nominated for both Golden Globe and BAFTA's Anthony Asquith Award for Achievement in Film Music. He has composed music for a number of films. Nevertheless, Jan has also been accredited to write two symphonic and choral pieces for two important national occasions in Poland, which are "Cantata for Freedom" in the year 2005 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Solidarity movement, and "Oratorio 1956" in the year 2006 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of bloody uprising against totalitarian government in Poznan, Poland. Eventually, both the premiers of this two occasion were broadcast live on national television. Besides, Jan A.P. Kaczmarek is also the member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Jan has also set up an institute, known as the Instytut Rozbitek in his home country Poland that has been inspired by the Sundance Institute. This institute is a center for European studies for the development of new work in the areas of film, theater, music and new media. It aims to support artist of independent vision and will also has plans to introduce methods of American film making as well as successful marketing. The motive behind establishing Instytut Rozbitek, Jan A.P. Kaczmarek says, "I am particularly interested in what is being done by the young generation of musicians.
