Last Easter is a play by Bryony Lavery. The plays explores the hostile subject of assisted suicide. Lavery does not conceal the flaws and terrors of the subject but tries her level best to honey coat it. The play explores the life and trials of a levelheaded professional woman who rents a house with her three close friends: a ditz, an oversexed party girl and a wisecracking gay man. The characters may sound a bit cliche but they given substance by a good storyline and very well written dialogs.
The characters in the play are theater folk, the dying woman is a lighting designer who is suffering form an incurable form of cancer. Her three friends are trying very hard to give her hope and support and are taking her to Lourdes. The friends – an American prop designer played by Clea Lewis, a self-dramatic alcoholic actress played by Florencia Lozano, she apparently cant seem to get over her own boyfriend's suicide and lastly a gay man played by Jeffrey Carlson, the ones that always have an answer and solution to everything from cash to sex partners.

The performance of Veanne Cox is fantastic and she is the element that holds the whole play together. The rest of the cast have churned out first-rate work.

June the principal character is dying and her friends Heather, and Gash take her from London to Texas and from there to Lourdes. It is upon reaching Lourdes, June finally finds peace in the holy waters. There are some very touching moments in the play, especially when these friends are whirled away from their jolly life and suddenly realize the harshest realities of life.
