The group is eponymous of Mark Morris who himself is a well renowned modern dancer and choreographer. As far as Mark Morris is concerned, the strength and encouragement came from nowhere else than his own family. His father was his first music teacher and his mother, his first dance choreographer. He nurtured his dance talents in such a conducive environment and paved a suitable career path in the bigger arena. He moved on to New York in 1980 and floated the Mark Morris Dance Company and also gave its maiden concert.
