Mary Poppins tickets are available for the Broadway show at the New Amsterdam Theatre and for various venues as the touring production traverses the United States. The Walt Disney Theatrical production references both the revered P.L. Travers books and the timeless 1964 Disney film, a rarity for this immensely successful division of Disney. OnlineSeats has cheap Mary Poppins tickets for both productions in 2011.
Mary Poppins tickets have been sold since the musical debuted in Bristol at the Bristol Hippodrome on September 15, 2004 before moving a couple months later to the Prince Edward Theatre in the West End. The West End production won Olivier Awards for the individual performance by Laura Michelle Kelly (Mary Poppins) and for choreography by Matthew Bourne and Stephen Mear. Mary Poppins finally made its way overseas in late 2006. The Broadway production of Mary Poppins opened at the New Amsterdam Theatre on November 16, 2006.
Mary Poppins' production history is an interesting one. This is did not begin in the conference room of Walt Disney Theatricals, but instead when producer Cameron Mackintosh met Pamela Travers, the author of the children book series. He convinced her to award him the rights to develop a stage adaption of the books in 1993. Eight years later he met with the Disney Theatrical executive Thomas Schumacher. A stage adaptation of the Mary Poppins would be a lost cause without incorporating elements of the Disney film. The result of the meeting was a collaborative effort with a creative team featuring song writers George Stiles, Robert Sherman, and Richard Sherman and script writer Julian Fellows.
