In the year 1948, he got the Pulitzer Prize for Drama for A Streetcar Named Desire and also for Cat On a Hot Tin Roof in 1955. He also received the New York Drama Critics' Circle Awards for The Glass Menagerie in the year 1945 and The Night of the Iguana in the year 1961. He dedicated The Rose Tatto to his partner Frank Merlo, for which he received the Tony Award in the category of best play. Critics of genre believes that Williams writes in the Southern Gothic style. He has wrote innumerable plays.
