Red Night Winter is a play by Adam Rap. The main protagonists of the play are Matt -a writer who is suffering from writers block and is also considering committing suicide. Davis is his friend, but not in the conventional sense of the word, as years ago he had deceived Matt by engaging in an affair with his girl friend. Christina is the third character and is a prostitute. She shares sexual intimacy with both men, but is smitten by Davis. Matt on the other hand fantasizes about her after their physical interaction.
According to the story - Matt and Davis are two friends who have come to Europe on a break. The play starts with with Matt sitting in a hotel room in the red light area of Amsterdam. As Matt is talking to himself, Davis enters in the company of a prostitute named Christina. Davis tells him that she is for him and Matt is more than surprised by this gesture. But what should have been a simple sexual encounter weaves a web that traps all three characters in its webs. Matt falls for her, but Christina is smitten by Davis.

This leads to a love triangle which forms the crux of the play. In the Second act, the play moves to New York one year later. Christina ends up in Matt's apartment while searching for Davis. Matt's feelings come rushing back and he tells her, "After I met you, I felt like I could be in the world again."
The play has been well drawn by Rap and the characters have their own unique appeal. Matt draws the most praise and sympathy. The play falls short in the second half. But the appeal of the play lies in its treatment. Although he has written the play well, his does an equally good job at directing it. Great performances from the cast means that this is play to watch out for.
