Speed The Plow
Speed the Plow, the name inspired by the phrase "industry produces wealth, God speed the plow," sells tickets with the author's gift for modern language and understanding the complexities of the modern world. The David Mamet satire explores the movie business and sets the conflict with a mid-level producer who must decide between money and art, between another action movie and an adaptation of a complex novel that is spiritual and apocalyptic.
The mid-level producer, Bobby Gould, is having the classic argument with fellow producer Charlie Fox, and decides to have a temp, Karen, read the novel and give him notes. Gould has a side bet with Fox that he will sleep with her, but upon listening to her review and thoughts he is impressed. The finale is full of the cynicism that fuels every great satire and brings the facets of the story together with Fox accusing Karen of using sex to find a place in the movies.

 The play first debuted in 1988 in the Lincoln Center Theater at the Royal Theater on Broadway. The laud playwright's work won the Tony Award for Best Play and earned enough acclaim to spread the work across the country for regional productions and university shows.
