Steve McNicholas and Luke Creswall started a group of unique percussion and visual comedy in Brighton, UK in 1991 after working on the project for 10 years. The groups first work together in the street band and the group Pookiesnackeburger and Cliff Hanger. The group inspired the two to create a comedy instrumental group.
The group would later make a video for Bette Midler's Mondo Beyondo in 1986. After this, the group started getting hyped up as many people became interested in the unique percussion group. The first event was in 1991 when the two formed the group with their own finances in the Boomsbury Theatre. Stomp Hit the world scene during 1994 as it traveled to other countries to play its show. The group won the Olivier nomination for Best Entertainment Award and won Best Choreography Award.
In 1995, two more American productions of 30 people were created to tour. This group continues to make its US concert tour still to this day. Another troop tours the rest of the world. The group's history in the Orpheum Theatre in New York won the group both the Obie Award and a Drama Desk Award.
