The plot of the play revolves around a married couple and their financial crises, and what all they do to overcome that. Henry played by Matthew Healy, is not any job and this becomes the reason for his desperation for work. and desperate. After several months of intense search, he finally decides to leave his his home and two children and go out looking for work. For this he leaves to his wife Lily's hometown. Lonely and helpless, Lily befriends a neighbor, Sandy at the motel. Sandy offers Lily a possible solution. Donnie and Max are two detectives who have been put on a recent homicide case, the prime suspect being Henry. These characters are forced to see the truth of their individual situations, all within the confines of this dingy motel.
The playwright is by George F. Walker who happens to be one of Canada's most prolific and popular playwrights. He hold the honor of being awarded with not one but eight Chalmers awards, five Dora awards as well as two Governor General Awards. Suburban Motel: a series of six plays including The End of Civilization, premiered in Canada at the Factory Theater, Toronto and in New York at Rattlestick Productions. Since its opening in 1997, numerous plays from the series have been produced throughout Canada, the United States and United Kingdom. Other plays by Walker include Criminals in Love, Zastrozzi and Escape from Happiness.
Alan Langdon is the Director of this brilliant play. He made his first appearance in the scene of Off-Broadway in The Fantasticks and Intimate Relations, was Artistic Director of the Actors Space, and headed the Professional Acting Program at the University of Oklahoma. Alan's some of the prestigious directions involve his work at the Virginia Shakespeare Festival, the British American Restoration Arts Theater in England and was Director of Apprentice Workshops for the Williamstown Theater Festival.
