The Pitmen Painters brings the story of the Ashington Group, a small group of miners in Ashington, Northumberland who embraced the art world without any formal training. The group met from 1934 to 1984 and made a name for itself in the British art world in the 1930s and 1940s. Now there meetings have been eternalized on the stage with The Pitmen Painters tickets.
Playwright Lee Hall adapted the play from a William Feaver book about that group. The play debuted at Live Theatre in Newcastle upon Tyne in 2007. The play transferred to the Royal National Theatre after the play habitually sold out Live Theatre and even headed out on a national tour of the United Kingdom. The Pitmen Painters is coming to Broadway next, set to play at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre beginning on November 14, 2010.
