Torch Song Trilogy is a collective series of three plays written by Harvey Fierstein. All the three plays run collectively for approx. four hours. The plays are entitled as "The International Stud", "Fugue in a Nursery" and "Widows and Children First!". Every act shows a different part of the life story of Arnold Beckoff who is a torch song-singing Jewish drag queen in New York City who starts the story with a monologue explaining his misanthropic edification with love. This act conveys the feelings of a man when he is need of love. The emotions played by Arnold are really worth praising.
In the act, "The International Stud", Arnold falls in love with Ed after meeting and knowing him. Ed is not comfortable with his infatuation and bisexuality. Eventually, he leaves Arnold for a girlfriend with whom Arnold get married later. The theme for the Stud Bar has come from an actual bar located in New York, known for its notorious "back room" called The International Bar. People while speaking of the bar, would insert the word "stud" every time after the word "international" and so the name perplexed after many years. "Fugue in a Nursery" begins at the occasion of Christmas, when Arnold meets the love of his life, Alan. Alan is a model. They get married and settle down together. After some time, they also spend a weekend with Ed and his wife. It was the time when their relationship is tested but survived. One of these days, they arrange to adopt a child together. At the end of the act, very sadly and terribly, Alan is murdered in a homophobic attack.

"Widows and Children First!" has been set up in the spring season. This act shows the visit by Arnold's mother who comes from Florida. When she comes to know about his homosexuality and adoption of a gay teenage son, she has strong arguments with his son. His use of a family burial plot for Alan adds more fuel to the fight and then Arnold demands that she has to accept him for who he is. The following morning although, brought understanding between mother and son while the mother was on her way to leaving back for Florida. The relationship of mother and child is wonderfully played in this act. Even if strong arguments shake the relation but innermost feelings of understanding still remains in heart.
