Tyler Perry's Madea in One Big Happy Family tickets may be a heck of a phrase to spit out, but the show is well worth the trouble. Madea, the character immortalized by Tyler Perry, makes her back to the stage to help hold her family together…again. Perry expertly utilizes this character, with all her rough edges, to provide a moral compass for her family, a collection of a sons, daughters, granddaughters, grandsons, and extended family.
Perry let's Madea (played by Perry) provide the comedy in this otherwise very honest drama. Her physical comedy and sight gags bring the old vaudeville sensibilities back to the stage. This play differs from the extremely successful long list of Madea titles by adding a soundtrack. Old R&B and soul ballads fill some of the spaces, when Madea is not busy imparting her wisdom and the peripheral characters are not meeting the challenges of modern life head on.
