"I'd say our design goal and intent was to provide fully integrated audio and control systems with the flexibility required to support any type of programming short of high level rock-and-roll performances," says Robb.

The Zilkha Hall at the Hobby Center can be enjoyed by corporates on business meetings, art and music lovers and anyone who buys tickets to its shows. An intimate 500-seat theater, the theater's design has evolved from its original black box theater to a proscenium theater. The Hobby Center was designed by A. M. Stern, costing a total of $102 million.
Located in the middle of Houston's theater District, the Hobby Center has two opulent structures namely Zilkha Hall and 2,650-seat Sarofim Hall, 800-car garage and Michael Cordua's Artista restaurant. The glistening facade with its 60-foot-high glass walls gives exciting vistas of Houston's skyscrapers. The graceful building looks out to Tranquility park and the deco-era City Hall.
The three-story lobby has a grand roof, supported by steel columns which punctuate the face of the Center. Similar to Toronto's CN tower, pedestrians have signed their names before the steel support beam were hoisted. On the inside, a beautiful 25x27 feet mural by Sol LeWitt graces th wall. 5,000 tonnes of steel, 171,693 bricks, 45,441 cubic feet of concrete, 250 tonnes of limestone and 7,000 gallons of paint make up this Houston Delight. The Hobby Center was held it first public open house on 14th May, 2002.
