Tokio Hotel started with twin brothers Bill and Tom Kaulitz, bassist Georg Listing and drummer Gustav Scäfer. In 2001, the group of artists met in a Magdeburg club, where the brothers listened to the other two artists on stage. The band Devilish was quickly formed as the band started playing small concerts. Bill Kaulitz came in the quarter-finals of Star Search and was noticed at 13 by music producer Peter Hoffman. The group quickly changed their name to Tokio Hotel after their favorite city and from traveling so much and staying in hotels. After releasing both Scream and Rescue me, the band moved from producers Sony BMG to Universal Music Group.
Furch den Monsun (Through the Monsson) quickly raised the stars to fame as it appeared in the German single charts at #1 in both Germany and Austria. Schrei hit high with both Rette mich (Rescue Me) and Der letzete Tag (The Final Day). Both songs reached number one. The group later would receive a platinum certification for selling over 200,000 copies across the world.
