Trina, or Katrina Laverne Taylor, was born on December 3, 1978 and was raised around Miami, living in both poverty and excess. She had her experience living in squalor in the Liberty City housing projects and a taste of the good life living in the upper-crust neighborhood Pembroke Isle. Trina's first taste of the music industry came in 1998 when she was featured on a Trick Daddy track. Now she is a respected hip hop musician, selling Trina tickets and albums throughout the country.
After the Trick Daddy single reached number three on the Billboard rap chart, she became a recognizable figure in hip hop, eventually landing a deal with Slip-N-Slide, a subsidiary of Atlantic Records. By 2000 she had released her debut album, Da Baddest Bitch. The album had a strong debut in the Billboard 200, reaching number 33, and eventually went gold.
Trina's next album, Diamond Princess, went gold as well and reached number five on the U.S. R&B charts. Since this last album, produced with the help of Missy Elliot, Trina has struggled to translate strong chart positioning with record sales.
