Underworld is the electronic/techno British duo that have been performing together since 1986. The two have actually been playing together since 1979. They met in Cardiff while attending college and played in the band Fluer (well, actually the band was a bunch of squiggly lines that somehow was pronounced Fluer). Now, they sell Underworld tickets as one of the most popular electronic acts in the world.

The group began as a five piece group. Hyde and Smith were joined by Alfie Thomas, Bryn Burrows, and Baz Allen. The early Underworld had a far more guitar-oriented sound than they do now. This group signed to Sire Records in 1987 and released their first album Underneath the Radar. The album peaked at number 139 on the U.S. Billboard charts. This quintet lasted one more album before disbanding.

Now down to two, Underworld brought in DJ Darren Emerson and suddenly the Underworld the world we have all know now began to emerge. Driven by a danceable beat and released their first gold record, dubnobasswithmyheadman. The true break came in 1996. Underworld released the album Second Toughest in the Infants and the international hit film Trainspotting featured the song Born Slippy and suddenly everyone on both sides of the Atlantic knew the group.
