Vampire Weekend has already conquered the indie rock charts with their album, and now the band will add a month-long promotional tour to support Contra. Vampire Weekend tickets will be available for 11 concerts spread from the West Coast to the East Coast. The tour begins on August 28, 2010 at the Malkin Bowl in Vancouver, British Columbia and ends on September 26, 2010 in Los Angeles at the Hollywood Bowl after snaking back from the East Coast.
The indie rock band Vampire Weekend has a unique style, influenced by African popular music and classical music. Sometimes called Upper West Side Soweto, this sound, complete with light drum beats, flowing lyrics, and a playful guitar, have taken over the emerging rock scene as defined by Spin and Rolling Stone. Vampire Weekends tickets are a chance to see the group that knows it is worthy of lampooning. Christian Lander, the creator of the beloved Stuff White People Like blog and book deemed the group the Whitest Band.
Vampire Weekend, with Ezra Koenig as the lead singer and guitarist; Rostam Batmanglij as the keyboardist, guitarist and providing some vocals; Chris Tomson on drums; and Chris Baio on bass guitar, has played to audiences throughout North America and the UK in a project that began in the members spare time after they graduated from Columbia University in 2006. Koenig and Tomson had experience performing together as the comedy rap group L'Homme Run, but this new musical venture took the name from one of Koenig's student film and managed to make those full time jobs a short term thing. The foursome has sold tickets on tour with the Shins throughout the UK and shared the stage with David Crosby and Graham Nash in Central Park for the Music for Democracy rally in the summer of 2008.
