The New Orleans Arena is an indoor arena located on 1501 Girod Street in New Orleans, Louisiana, and since 2002 it has been home to the New Orleans Hornets of the NBA, and some Tulane University basketball games. The arena was opened on October 19, 1999, owned by The State of Louisiana, with construction costs of $84 million USD and capacity of 17,188 for New Orleans Hornets’s games, 19,000 for concerts and 16,500 for Arena Football.
The Arena is used as a venue for music concerts, trade shows and conventions. The main tenant for the first three years was the Brass, until the they were forced to fold after Hornets management demanded priority upon moving. The New Orleans VooDoo of the AFL are playing their home games in the arena since February 2004. In 2004 the arena has hosted the Women's Final Four and will host the 2008 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament South Regionals, later in 2007, it hosted ArenaBowl XXI, also in 2007 the first and second rounds of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, and in 2008 the NBA All-Star Game, in July 2008 the ArenaBowl XXII, on March 11, 2008 it hosted 311 Day 2008 and in 2012 will host the Southeastern Conference men's basketball tournament.
