The Philips Arena is a world-famous venue that is located in Atlanta, Georgia. It is an indoor stadium and is the official home to the Atlanta Thrashers of the NHL and the Atlanta Hawks of the NBA. The construction work of the venue was completed in the year 1999 at a huge cost of 213.5 million dollars. It is currently owned by a group of investors called Atlanta Spirit, LLC. The arena offers a seating capacity of 18,729 for basketball fans and around 18,545 for ice-hockey fanatics. The largest crowd ever witnessed here featured 20,040 fans for an Atlanta Hawks basketball tournament game held in the NBA playoffs in the year 2008. It is geared up with 92 luxury suites and 1,866 club seats but for events like shows and concerts, the arena can seat 21,000 people.

The design of the venue is planned in an entirely different manner. The club seats and luxury boxes are situated along one side of the playing surface and the general seats for admission are located along the other three sides. This unique layout is very different and offers a vast contrast to many other arenas. This unique layout was done in order to place a wide range of seats closer to the playing surface along with having a sufficient availability of revenue-raising club seats and lodges, side by side. The world-famous electronic company “Philips Electronics” has purchased the naming rights of this arena and that is why the name of the venue is commercialized. The Philips Arena implemented the use of the new “see-through” shot clock units for their 2007-2008 season to bring in variety. It allowed the fans that were sitting behind the basket to witness the action without being interrupted by the clocks. The traditional scrolling panels were also replaced by the advanced and modernized Video Advertising Panels to give the stadium an all-together new look.
