The University of Phoenix Stadium is situated in Glendale, Arizona. The stadium is home to the Annual Fiesta Bowl and the National Football League (NFL). The University of Phoenix, a non – profit, university that specializes in adult education, achieved the naming rights in September of the year 2006. Earlier it was named as the Cardinals Stadium. The stadium was inaugurated on 1st August, in the year 2006. The venue is regarded as an architectural icon and was named among the 10 “most impressive” sports facilities by Business Week. This was because of the combination of its retractable roof and roll-in natural grass field. This beautiful stadium has a seating capacity of 63,400 seats, which is expandable to 73,719 seats. The stadium cost a whopping 455 million dollars to build. Peter Eisenman/HOK Sport is the designer and Global Spectrum, the operator. Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority own the stadium. The stadium also has 88 luxury suites that are called “luxury lofts.”

The Cardinals defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first pre – season football game on 12th August in the year 2006. Later on September 10th the first regular season match was conducted between the San Francisco 49ers and the Cardinals. On 7th February of the year 2007, the stadium played host to the highest attended soccer match held in the state of Arizona. 62,462 fans were present to witness the match. The multipurpose stadium has hosted several games, shows, concerts and other events. Several shows, tradeshows, expositions, motor sport events, the AIA 4A and 5A state championship games for football, the Rolling Stones concert, the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, the Fiesta Bowl National Band Championship High School Marching Band competition and the BCS National Championship are the events that took place in the stadium. It also hosted the 2008 Fiesta Bowl between the West Virginia University Mountaineers and the Oklahoma Sooners. On 3rd February of the year 2008, the stadium hosted the Super Bowl XLII.
