The city of Victoria is located in the province of British Columbia, Canada. Victoria is placed on the southern tip of the Vancouver Island and is a major tourist destination. According to the 2006 Census \, the population of the city stands at 78,659.

Victoria was incorporated in the year of 1862. According to Census Bureau Estimates, the city covers an area of 19.68 km². The city witnesses more than 3.65 million visitors every year and is a major cruise ship port. The downtown portion of the city is a popular center for tourists, since it has many theatres, restaurants and pubs. It is also the center for most regional public events of the city, such as the Canada Day celebrations and the Symphony Splash concerts.

The city has a thriving culture and is the home of many famous opera-houses and symphony-halls. The extremely popular 'Victoria Symphony' is based in this city. Some popular theatres are the 'Royal Theatre', the 'Farquhar Auditorium', the 'Belfry Theatre', the 'Phoenix Theatre', the 'Kaleidoscope Theatre' and the 'Macpherson Theatre'. The city is also hosts the famous Electronic Music Festival at the Centennial Square, where DJs from all over the world compete with each other.

Victoria has an active sporting tradition. The city hosted several events during the 2005 Ford World Men's Curling Championship, the 1994 Commonwealth Game and the 2006 Skate Canada. The city is also the venue for the famous 'Bastion Square Grand Prix Criterium' road cycling race. The accomplished hockey teams 'Victoria Cougars' and the 'Victoria Salmon Kings' are based in this city.
