Back in 2006 three guys from Knoxville, Kentucky drew inspiration from Jack the Ripper and formed Whitechapel. Fans with Whitechapel tickets are in for a guitar-heavy display off deathcore. Currently, the band's lineup features Phil Bozeman's demonic vocals; Ben Savage, Alex Wade, and Zach Housholder as guitarists; Gabe Crisp on bass; and Kevin Lane on the drums. This band is not without its casualties. Guitarist Brandon Cagle and drummer Derek Martin left the group in 2007.
The name Whitechapel is taken from the particular location in London Jack the Ripper terrorized. The band, though from the South, is signed with a British label, Siege of Amida Records. They also have a deal with Metal Blade Records in the United States.
The group's first release was The Somatic Defilement, an album whose songs are first person accounts from the mind of Jack the Ripper and other notable monsters who prey on prostitutes. Guitarist Cagle left after recording this album because of extensive motorcycle injuries leaving him unable to play. Whitechapel did not breach the Billboard 200, but impressed nonetheless.
