Kevin O saw Josh's performance in his old band Denihil in the year 1995 and he liked him so much that he joined the band when it was formed.
Some problems arose in the band Denihi in which Josh used to play and eventually the band broke off in the year 1997. Josh along with his brother Justin and his friend Kevin O thought of starting a new band together and soon afterwards Homemade Football was born in which some other musicians also joined. Homemade Football was actually a sort of goof band, whose lyrics were all about kicking field goals, the TV show "Saved By The Bell" and also about their favorite Chinese restaurant. It was liked by the audience because the subject matter was light that reflected the guys easy-going nature. After that they started performed in some local shows. Later some problems, arose in the band and Homemade Football was disbanded. But Josh, Justin and Kevin O, still kept working on their music. It was then decided, that they will again form a band, but for that they need a bassist. As a result, Kevin D, Josh cousin was requested to join the group and named themselves Xlooking Forwardx.

After the band was formed, the group decided that they have got to be serious with their lyrics and music. They tried to focused more on the value of family, friendship, staying true to yourself and straight edge, as compared to the earlier light moods. Although the group are straight edge, God fearing and still has got that easy-going attitude, but they stuck to their serious mood realizing that the band is an opportunity to talk out about things that is required to be said. Their song has got many influences, jazz, death metal, early thrash metal, old school hardcore as well as old school metal core, i.e. Anthrax, or S.O.D as well as punk, citing bands like the Misfits. The Misfits inspired Kevin O to pick up the drumsticks. The outcome was a seamless blend of old school youth crew, with metal breakdowns and a punk overtone. They recorded their first demo, 1117, in the year 2000. The album was 11 minutes and 17 seconds long, which funnily suited the title. The album featured six songs, including current crowd favorites "Ignition," and sing-a-long "Together for a Reason." These songs, along with two others from the 1117 demo, were re-recorded when xLFx was signed to DFF records in 2001. They released their second project Ahoy Crew Members! In the year 2002. It featured 14 tracks of their trademark hardcore-metal-punk blend, from the metal-laden "Wash My Hands," to the old-school feel of "All Fun and No Fights," to the punk feel of "Not Enough Time." They then signed up with Blood and Ink Records, after completing their deal with DFF records. They then released their second album What This Means To Me, in the year 2004 and it has got a more mature tone to it. In 2005, they then signed up with Facedown Records and released their third full-length album, The Path We Tread. It features 19 old-school hardcore anthems , that are more passionate and soulful. They then embarked upon extensive national tours throughout the U.S. In the year 2006, they released their next album The Path We Tread.
